State Route 128 Phantom Bridge, Miamitown, Ohio

Almost exactly halfway between Miamitown and Hooven, Ohio on State Route 128 is this concrete phantom bridge built in the 1920s. This bridge was used on a daily basis by area motorists until State Route 128 was realigned in the 1940s. In this aerial view taken in 1956 you can plainly see how the old state route had more of a bend in the road. However, today there is no trace of the old state route footprint outside of this bridge.

The bridge is about 40 feet long and spans a small creek which empties into the Great Miami River. An older farm house sat right at the bend in the road but was demolished sometime in the early 1990s. All trace of the former roadway has been pretty much obliterated since 2010 and although the bridge sits just 25 feet from the current roadway, if you don’t know where to look, you’ll miss it completely!

Next time you’re on State Route 128, keep your eye out for this piece of Whitewater Township history. If its not removed, it will probably last another 100 years.
