The Historic City View Tavern, Cincinnati, Ohio

City View Tavern located in the Mt. Adams neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio has origins which date back to when the building was constructed in 1875. In 1891 it was owned by Thomas Spain who opened a grocery on the first of what was originally 3 floors. In 1901 a saloon was added and in 1906 the building and business was sold to Bernard Recklingloh. In 1917 Mr. Recklingloh sold the business to one of his employees, George Lagemann. The business stayed in the Lagemann family until it was sold to the current owner, Deb Henning and is known as the City View Tavern for it’s outstanding view of downtown Cincinnati.

The tavern has had many colorful stories over the years and in this video we cover the infamous “Christmas Tree Fire” which resulted in the loss of the upper two floors of the building. We find out why tequila is no longer served at the establishment and its connection to a regular customer by the name of Charlie Manson. Also in the video we discover some of the more famous patrons of City View Tavern including George Clooney and Erich Kunzel.
