Willey Road Bridge, New Baltimore, Ohio

The Historic Willey Road Bridge, New Baltimore, Ohio

Built in 1911 this is one of only 8 rainbow arch bridges in the state of Ohio. This bridge was designed by Ernest Gast of East Price Hill who was an employee of the Hamilton County Engineers office. This design originated in Germany and was brought to the United States in the early 1900s. Mr. Gast also designed two similar rainbow arch bridges in Lockland, Ohio, one of which still stands today!

This rare bridge is 65 feet long and spans Paddy’s Run. The bridge was altered in 1996 when the superstructure or base of the bridge, was removed and replaced with a pre-stressed concrete bridge. However, the original arches were retained and still shadow either side of the bridge even though they are only decorative and do nothing to support the bridge itself.
