Powell Bridge, Findlay, Ohio

Just 100 yards from Interstate 75 in Hancock County, Ohio sits the Powell Bridge named for the Powell Cemetery just east of the bridge. The 3 panel pinned half-hip, Pratt pony truss bridge was built in 1895 and is about 40 feet long. The stone bridge abutments have been capped with concrete. The bridge was built by the Smith Bridge Company which began operation in 1867 in Tipp City, Ohio building wood-truss bridges like the Spencerville Covered Bridge in DeKalb County, Indiana. In 1870 they moved to Toledo, Ohio and were later sold to new owners who renamed the company, Toledo Bridge. At 127 years old this bridge is still in decent shape even though it only sees about 40 vehicles in a 24 hour period.
