Old Scotland Bridge, Mechanicsburg, Indiana

Built in 1901 this three span stone arch bridge is 128 feet long and spans Sugar Creek northeast of Mechanicsburg, Indiana.

Not long after the bridge was built, it was heavily damaged in a flood and had to be rebuilt in 1908 which resulted in the center section looking different than the two ends.

This bridge is located on North 200 East but it’s also known as the “Lost Road”. Back in the 1800s before the bridge was built this was known as a “Wagon Trail” and as the trail approached Sugar Creek from the North it went through a very dense section of woods where the trail appeared to be “Lost”. Some travelers did become lost on this section of road.
