The Linwood Road Bridge, Bowling Green, Ohio

The one lane Linwood Road Pony Truss Bridge near Bowling Green, Ohio was built in 1885 by the Smith Bridge Company of Toledo, Ohio which began building covered bridges in 1867 such as the Spencerville Covered Bridge in DeKalb County, Indiana. The Linwood Road bridge is 74 feet long and spans the North Branch of the Portage River. It was restored in 1987 and then closed around 2005 due to deterioration with no plans to ever reopen the bridge. The Wood County Historical Society which only sits 500 feet away from the bridge made the noble decision to have the bridge repurposed for pedestrian use rather than have it removed. In April of 2008 it was reopened.

If you visit the bridge pay attention to the cast iron decorative end caps on the ends of the floor beams. A little added touch by the builder to spruce up the bridge to enhance its look for the public.
