Less than a mile northwest of Friendship, Indiana is this beautiful four span stone arch bridge built in 1909 by Henry Harmon of Vernon, Indiana at a cost of $3800.00. Harmon won the bid to build the bridge in June 1909 and completed the work 3 months later on September 17, 1909. Each of the four spans is about 21 feet wide. The bridge, carrying Olean Road, is 103 feet long and spans Raccoon Creek in Ripley County. Known by the county road department as “Bridge Number 3” it’s known by the locals just as “Olean Road Bridge”. This is one of at least 12 stone arch bridges in the county which puts Ripley County in second place for having the most stone arch bridges in the state.
