The CSX Licking River Bridge South, Wilder, Kentucky

Most likely built in the early 1900s this single span railroad bridge is about 150 feet long and spans the Licking River between Wilder & Latonia, Kentucky.

Now owned by CSX rail line this was the former L & N Wilder Main. This line use to continue North up Saratoga Street in Newport, Kentucky and then connected to the L & N Bridge across the Ohio River until the tracks were removed in 1985. That bridge is now known as the Purple People Bridge.

Today only a few coal trains use this bridge across the Licking River connecting to the former C & O mainline from Huntington, West Virginia where they do crew changes in Latonia before heading south.

The bridge was built to handle two lines although I can’t find any evidence that a second line was ever built.
