The Historic Hinton Road Overpass, Rutland, Kentucky
Straddling the Scott & Harrison County, Kentucky border is the Hinton Road Overpass. Built in 1930 this 110 foot long steel stringer bridge spans a rail line for the Norfolk Southern Railway on Hinton Road. The bridge e is less than 19 feet wide so basically it’s just one lane. The rail line is active with several freight trains a day making their journey north and south although on this particular day there wasn’t a train in site. This bridge doesn’t see too much motor vehicle traffic and I’m guessing on a busy day it might see only about 50 vehicles? For being over 90 years old, it’s still in fairly good condition.
