Route 46 Ghost Road and Phantom Bridge, Logan, Indiana
Route 46 Ghost Road and Phantom Bridge, Logan, Indiana
Before State Route 46 was designed and built in 1937, the former road running East and West in this area ran between St. Leon and the Whitewater River winding back and forth across creek beds usually without the help of a bridge. Sometime in the 1920s this concrete bridge was built along that roadway to span a small stream that emptied into Logan Creek. When State Route 46 was built, it bypassed the former road and this bridge. Now just 30 feet from the state route, this 100 year old phantom bridge still serves the sole landowner. Driving west on State Route 46 between the Whitewater River and headed up the hill, if you look closely you can find the location of the former road by flat spots and driveways where it was once located.
