I-77 Ohio River Bridge, Marrietta, Ohio & Williamstown, West Virginia
The I-77 Ohio River Bridge connecting Ohio and West Virginia was constructed in 1965. Total length of the bridge is 2615 feet with the Polygonal Warren Truss portion of the bridge coming in at 651 feet.
I’ve filmed many bridges over the years and this doesn’t rate anywhere near the top. It’s just nothing to write home about but….the bridge is now 60 years old and reaching the end of its life expectancy. Even though it’s in Fair Condition, I’m sure it has less than 40 years left on its time clock.
I’m not sure what type of bridge will replace the current span but as technology improves, the engineering designs of the future may favor a different style of bridge.
So for everyone watching this video 100 years from now in 2125, this is what we were using in 2025. Be sure to video document your current bridge and archive the video so people in 2225 can look back on what you used to get across the Ohio River.
