Cabin Creek Covered Bridge, Rectorville, Kentucky
One of 11
Built around 1870 the Cabin Creek Covered Bridge near Tollesboro, Kentucky is one of only 11 covered bridges still standing in the state of Kentucky in 2021. In the early 1900s the laminated arches and the iron tension rods were added to improve the weight bearing capacity of the bridge. In 1983 the bridge was closed to vehicular traffic as a new bridge was built just downstream. In 2008 it was heavily damaged by a flood which damaged the bridge abutments and siding on the bridge. A few years later a steel support structure was built inside the bridge to support the structure until funds could be raised to restore the bridge. In 2014 the bridge was completely restored but limited to pedesterian traffic. The Cabin Creek Covered Bridge is 114 feet long and spans Cabin Creek.
