Abandoned Phantom Bridge Discovered Near Bardstown, Kentucky on Old US Route 62 Ghost Road
Although I spoke to 5 or 6 people in Nelson County regarding the build date for this bridge, no one was able to come up with a firm date although after using old highway maps and aerial photography I’m quite sure it was constructed prior to 1937. The bridge carried Old Route 62 on the west side of Bardstown, Kentucky.
The bridge spans Buffalo Creek which was damed to create Sympson Lake. The lake was completed in 1963 and shortly there after, Route 62 was realigned and placed on top of the dam. The old road was closed to the public sometime after Route 62 was realigned.
