Big Darby Railroad Bridge, Harrisburg, Ohio

Just south of Harrisburg, Ohio is a massive Railroad Trestle measuring about 750 feet long and rises about 50 feet above the ground. The trestle sits on 12 concrete piers not counting the abutments at either end. It spans Darby Creek Road, the waterway of Big Darby Creek and the driveway leading back to the Pickaway Correctional Institute. Little information is known about the trestle but it was most likely built in the late 1800s or early 1900s.

Less than a mile away the rail line crosses Route 762 near Orient, Ohio where stone abutments support the trestle. The stone is pot marked where holes were drilled during the quarrying process. At least one wall has a steel reinforcement in place to stabilize the structure.
